Life was filled with guns and war And everyone got trampled on the floor I wish we'd all been ready Children died, the days grew cold A piece of bread could buy a bag of gold I wish we'd all been ready There's no time to change your mind The son has come and you've been left behind A man and wife asleep in bed She hears a noise and turns her head, he's gone I wish we'd all been ready Two men walking up a hill One disappears and one's left standing still I wish we'd all been ready There's no time to change your mind The son has come and you've been left behind Life was filled with guns and war And everyone got trampled on the floor I wish we'd all been ready Children died, the days grew cold A piece of bread could buy a bag of gold I wish we'd all been ready There's no time to change your mind How could you have been so blind The father spoke, the demons dined The son has come and you've been left behind You've been left behind [x4]

I was born and raised an orphan In a land that once was free The (in the) land that poured its love out on the moon And I grew up in the shadows Of your silos filled with grain But you never helped to fill my empty spoon And when I was ten you murdered law With courtroom politics And you learned to make a lie sound just like truth But I know you better now And I don't fall for all your trick And you've lost the one advantage of my youth Kill a black man at midnight Just for talking to your daughter Then you make his wife your mistress And you leave her without water And the sheet you wear upon your face Is the sheet your children sleep on And at every meal you say a prayer You don't believe but still you keep on And your money says in God we trust But it's against the law to pray in school You say we beat the Russians to the moon And I say you starved your children to do it You are far across the ocean In a war that's not your own While you're winning theirs You're gonna lose the one at home Do you really think the only way To bring about the peace Is to sacrifice your children And kill all your enemies Politicians all make speeches While the news men all take notes They exaggerate the issues As they shove them down our throat Is it really up to them Whether this country sinks or floats Well I wonder who would lead us If none of us would vote Well my phone is tapped and my lips are chapped From whispering through the fence You know every move I make Or is that just coincidence Will you try to make my way of life A little less like jail If I promise to make tapes and slides (Aah aah aah) And send them through the mail (Aah) And your money says in God we trust But it's against the law to pray in school You say we beat the Russians to the moon And I say you starved your children to do it You say all men are equal, all men are brothers Then why are the rich more equal than others Don't ask me for the answers, I've only got one That a man leaves his darkness when he follows the son That one line don't ask me f' [Spoken]

One two three four, one two [Spoken] Pardon me Kissing you like I'm afraid But I know I'm being played with And you'll leave me when you get the chance Off you'll go In the darkness of the night Like a bird in freedom's flight You're thinking only of deliverance Close your eyes And pretend that you are me See how empty it can be Making love if love's not really there Watch me go Watch me walk away alone As your clothing comes undone And you pull the ribbons from your hair Pardon me

One two three [Spoken] Some say he was an outlaw That he roamed across the land With a band of unschooled ruffians And a few old fishermen No one knew just where he came from Or exactly what he'd done But they said it must be something bad That kept him on the run Some say he was a poet That he'd stand upon the hill And his voice could calm an angry crowd Or make the waves stand still That he spoke in many parables That few could understand But the people sat for hours Just to listen to this man Some say he was a sorcerer A man of mystery He could walk upon the water He could make a blind man see That he conjured wine at weddings And did tricks with fish and bread That he talked of being born again And raised people from the dead Some say a politician Who spoke of being free He was followed by the masses On the shores of Galilee He spoke out against corruption And he bowed to no decree And they feared his strength and power So they nailed him to a tree Some say he was the son of God A man above all men But he came to be a servant And to set us free from sin And that's who I believe he was 'Cause that's who I believe And I think we should Once [spoken] Get ready 'Cause it's time for us to leave

about

From the liner notes: Larry has always enjoyed listening to alternate tracks, demos and mixes of other artists. Some listeners might not hear what Larry is hearing because he's a writer and musician. He's bit-mapping the arrangement and variations as he listens. Some will perhaps have no interest in this kind of anthology but others will"get it" and really enjoy the variations, especially when the musicians have been given the physical cut gesture and are free to start playing humorous things until the song finally breaks down from the disarray of notes and dissipating energy.

This collection of songs reveals a little of the creative process through allowing you to hear alternate vocals and to witness the genesis of some compositions prior to their final structure
