I've been having some hard times All my life I hope things change pretty soon Hard luck and bad news Has followed me from town to town All my life my luck's been down I'm getting so weary I don't have one friend Folks turn their backs when I'm around And where I walk the grass turns brown No one will come near me Hard luck and bad news Hard luck and bad news If you were in my shoes you'd die My life's been lonely I've never heard a kindly word Ugly names is all I've heard And mean is how they treat me Nobody trusts me They blame me for the fires in town Claim that hell is where I'm bound And pray that God will speed me Hard luck and bad news Hard luck and bad news If you were in my shoes you'd die Woo Life's not worth living My sorrow's more than I can say Tomorrow's just another day I hate to see the sun rise Yet maybe someday I'll find a man to call a friend I'll be his friend until the end In loneliness my heart cry Hard luck and bad news Hard luck and bad news If you were in my shoes you'd die [x2]

Well I'm feeling so bad in the middle of love And it's easy to see that it isn't quite me that you're thinking of Must be somebody else, but I'm wondering who I can't seem to recall anybody at all who's in love with you Every night you'll hear me say what a day Well I saw you last week, you went out on the sly You walked into some church, I suspected the worst, bet you met some guy Then I waited outside, but you came out alone With a satisfied look and a little black book, then you went straight home Every night you'll hear me say what a day Well I got something I wanna say to you And this is what it is So listen [Guitar solo] Well this morning at ten, you invited me in As you poured me some coffee you told me straight off that you'd found a friend Well I wasn't surprised, no I wasn't surprised Cause you look so content baby, I see a different look in your eyes Every night you'll hear me say what a day [x2] Aw ah What a day

I was born about eighteen years ago in a little wooden shack I was born about eighteen years ago on the wrong side of the tracks I never knew my father and I never had a home Well I don't know where I came from and I don't know where I'm going I was born to be unlucky from my shoulders to my shoes And I guess I'm stuck with my unlucky blues When I was just a young boy I was raised on beans and trout And on my seventh birthday, well my mama she kicked me out They say I'm good for nothing, no one treats me kind I don't care 'cause pretty soon I'm gonna leave this world behind I was born to be unlucky from my shoulders to my shoes And I guess I'm stuck with my unlucky blues I jumped into the river to try to put myself away A man jumped in and saved me, he spoiled a perfect day He dragged me to the river's edge, he said he knew I had a need Then he pulled out a soggy bible and that man began to read Well he told me things I did not know, I'm glad I did not die 'Cause he told me God's my father and my real home is in the sky And I said [Instrumental] He said I'd done a very foolish thing to try to drown myself and die And I told him I was glad he happened to be passing by He said God would forgive me, so I repented of my sin Then he said I must be baptised and he threw me in again Aww I was born to be unlucky from my shoulders to my shoes I thought I must be stuck with these unlucky blues Aww yeaow My life has changed in many ways, I'm such a different man Well I know now who my father is and I know just where I stand With one foot up in heaven and one foot on the ground I travel through this world of ours, I try to spread God's word around I was born to be unlucky, I knowed it, from my shoulders to my shoes But I came unstuck from my unlucky blues Yeaow maybe you can too Alright woo And this is just beginning

Mo' guitar [Spoken] Mmm, mama killed a chicken, she thought it was a duck She put it on the table with his legs sticking up Papa broke his glasses when he fell down drunk Tried to drown the kitty cat, turned out to be a skunk You gotta watch what you're doing Didn't you know Yeah you gotta watch where you're going Didn't you know Little Joe Billy went fishing for trout Played hooky from school 'til the cops found out Didn't have a father, was an only child His mama never beat him so he grew up wild You gotta watch what you're doing Yeah I knew a girl, sweet as could be But she fell for a man like a chain sawed tree She listened to his lies, was fooled by his charms Now she's sitting with a baby in her arms You gotta watch what you're doing Didn't you know You gotta watch what you're doing You oughta know that You gotta watch out Watch out Well everything's fine till things get bad Then you sit around thinking 'bout the good times you had But it ain't no good to lead a life of sin If you don't shape up you know you'll never get in You better watch what you're doing Ah don't you know You oughta know where you're going Do you know Some folks smile, they seem alright Then you later find out it was an angel of light Try to love everybody but don't be blind 'Cause some kind of people try to mess your mind You gotta watch who you know yeah Some folks say that the good Lord's dead That he doesn't exist 'cept inside your head I wonder how many gonna be surprised When they look straight up and see him coming through the skies You gotta watch what you're doing Don't you know 'Cause he does yeah You know he watches what you're doing Yes he does You better know where you're going (Ooh ooh) Yeah yeah yeaow (Ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh) Well well well hutz sut sut Well well well hutz hutz a mutza C'mon pilgrim, you know he loves you He loves you more than he loves this cloven earth Don't make your life bad and start acting like an idiot

I was standing on the corner when I heard my bulldog bark Hahahahaha start again [laughter] Oh wait a minute fellas [laughter] Oh, oh okay, take two [Spoken] I was standing on the corner when I heard my bulldog bark I looked up into the sky and saw lights moving through the dark They were coming down from heaven, each one was brighter than the stars And I said to my bulldog, I wonder what they are I couldn't run, I could not swallow, I could only shake with fear They were coming t'ward me and they were getting near I heard people screaming around me in the darkness of that night Then I fell in silence, I was blinded by the light I felt my body drop off me like an old black overcoat I heard my bulldog howl and I began to float Aow and as that light came down around me, well I could not see a thing But I could feel a presence and I heard voices begin to sing Oh yeah (Tell me more, hmm) Tell you what (Tell me more, wo-oh) How can I tell you what happened (Tell me more hmm) I don't know what happened (Tell me more, wo-oh) I was just standing there with my bulldog and eh (Tell me more hmm, tell me more hmm) And I saw this light in the sky (Tell me more) Ok I'll tell you, I'll try to tell you The next thing I remember, well someone grabbed my hand I felt my spirit flying far above the land No no no I was flying Woo Ah ah [x6] I was standing at the gates of heaven when a hand reached out to touch my head Then I fell through a hole in heaven, I landed back in my bed I started weeping, I felt so lonely and my soul began to scream Had it just been my imagination, well it seemed so much more real than a dream I couldn't believe it (I couldn't believe it) I was still standing there in bed (In my own bed) With this crazy vision (Oh) going around and round and in my head I said what was I to think, I mean what was I to do (Oh somebody gotta help me, this can't be real) (Watch out) Now if you see me standing on the corner and you hear my bulldog bark You better look up in the sky in case there's something in the dark Sometimes I stay here until it's morning and I look up in the night Because you've got to be ready if you want to see the light Wo-oh wo-oh Oh yeah I'm just standing on the corner looking for something That was prophesied by the wise and foretold by the old Don't be standing in the darkness like a man who's lost his way Because he let his lamp go out, because he wasn't prepared For the undeniable arrival of the judgment day

about

Originally misunderstood by many and censored by Word Records while at the same time being praised as an instant classic, Something New Under The Son has stood the test of time and inspired countless listeners with it's raw bluesy grooves and intricate songs. It's the same record that stunned the critics upon its release, but is now remastered and equalized, digitally corrected, and polished to make it as shiny as possible. The album came on the heels of Larry's trilogy of albums and is one of his strongest releases ever.
