Moses tending sheep in the field one day Thought he heard a burning scrub-brush say Gotta free your people From the Pharaoh's hand Y’gotta take 'em all to the promised land Moses knew that God was a-talking to him So he set off to Egypt with a vigour and vim And Moses bugged the Pharaoh, yes he bugged him And he bugged him 'Till he got his people freed Mmm-hmm-hmm-hmm yes indeed Mmm-hmm he got his people freed Mmm-hmm-hmm-aoh Ow-how-how-hom Moses on the banks of the wide Red Sea Stuck out a stick and a-one two three The waters rolled back And the people walked down ‘Cos everybody knew that they wouldn't drown Pharaoh told his army to bring 'em all back And here come the chariots clickety clack Well Moses took a stick And he closed up the water And the 'Gyptians all took a bath Mmm-hmm-hmm-hmm what a laugh Mmm-hmm they all took a bath Mmm-hmm-hmm-dowm Aoh-ho-ho-hmm Grab my foot take my hand Lead me on to the promised land Milk and honey milk and honey Milk and honey milk and honey Me and all my people is here So keep on sending manna From the atmosphere Milk and honey milk and honey Milk and honey milk and honey, honey After forty long years in the wilderness They finally saw their potential metropolis They all gave thanks And they all praised the Lord Even though it took time he’d kept his word He had grab-bed their foot, had tooketh their hand And had brought 'em all over To the promised land But it seems to me like an awful long time to be Looking for a home Mmm-hmm-hmm-hmm mighty long roam Mmm-hmm looking for a home Mmm-hmm-hmm-aowm Uh-huh-huh-huh-uh

Steal my heart and hold my tongue I feel my time, my time has come Let me in, unlock the door I've never felt this way before The wheels just keep on turning The drummer begins to drum Don't know which way I'm going Don't know which way I've come Hold my head inside your hands I need someone who understands I need someone, someone who hears For you I've waited all these years For you I'd wait 'til kingdom come Until my day, my day is done Just say you'll come and set me free Say you'll wait, you'll wait for me In your tears and in your blood In your fire and in your flood I hear you laugh, I hear you sing I wouldn't change a single thing The wheels just keep on turnin’ The drummers begin to drum Don't know which way I'm going I don't know what I'll become For you I'd wait 'til kingdom come Until my days, my days are done So say you'll come and set me free Just say you'll wait, you'll wait for me Just say you'll wait, you'll wait for me Just say you'll wait, you'll wait for me

Aah ah ah ah ah [Continues throughout spoken introduction] I don’t know whether you believe this or not, but we have two brothers in Trouble who are the thievinest, sneakinest, well just downright crookedest people you’d ever wanna meet. Now of course that might not be too hard to believe, but when Orvill and George Dobkins - that’s the two brothers - steal something, they don’t steal from none of us. They steal from each other. That’s right, they steal from each other, have each other arrested and put in jail. Now Orvill’s been in jail, well eh twelve times. And George, well George has been in eleven. In fact he’s still in. Now the other day I saw Orvill on the street and after we got through with our howdees I asked him how George was. He kinda smiled and scratched the hammer holder on his overalls and said he guessed he’s ok. Then I said you know Orvill, it seems an awful shame for you and your brother to be stealing from each other all the time, and having each other arrested and spending all that time in jail. You must feel kinda bad with your brother all locked up in jail and you out here free as a bird. Well Orvill kinda grinned and said, it ain’t so bad, he can do anything he wants to do. [Spoken] He can love any woman he sees He can stay up as late as he please He can take a nice walk in the rain If he can do it on six feet of chain Six feet of chain Six feet of chain He's a prisoner on six feet of chain He can climb up a mountain so high He can run, he can jump, he can fly He can have plenty fortune and fame If he can do it on six feet of chain Six feet of chain Six feet of chain He's a prisoner on six feet of chain He can go if he wants to go He can stay if he wants to stay He can go crazy or stay sane But he must do it on six feet of chain (It’s a long road to get there) [x9] Six feet of chain Six feet of chain He's a prisoner on six feet of chain

Trouble is little and it's lonesome. You won't find it on any map. But you can take three steps in any direction and you're there. It's a place to be born. And it's a place to live. And it's a place to die and be forgotten. It's a town called Trouble. And Trouble is a lonesome town [Spoken] Lord I'd like to leave this town Lord I'd like to leave this town, this town But I guess I'll hang around Yes I guess I'll hang around Trouble is a lonesome town Trouble is a lonesome town, this town Trouble is where I was born Trouble is where I am from Trouble is a lonesome town Trouble is where I was born, oh Lord Trouble is where I am from Trouble is where I belong Trouble is where I belong Oh Lord, trouble

about

This compilation was created as a gift to those who pre-ordered Greg Thornbury's biography on Larry, 'Why Should The Devil Have All The Good Music? - Larry Norman And The Perils Of Christian Rock' from Solid Rock. Charles Norman described it thus:

"This CD is a companion piece to the 2018 book Why Should the Devil Have All the Good Music?: Larry Norman and the Perils of Christian Rock by Gregory Thornbury. This is not an overview of Norman's career, or a "greatest hits" compilation. It is a look at his lesser known creative output and contains mostly unheard and previously unknown recordings straight from the Solid Rock vaults, covering the span of years outside of his more visible career, from the songs of his youth to the final recording he ever made."

Note that two tracks from the CD (Most Likely You'll Go Your Way and I'll Go Mine and Knocking On Heaven's Door) are not included in the Bandcamp album, due to their policy on cover versions.
