There once was a time When I could call you a friend of mine A place to hide, where can it be I want to leave, sometimes I want to flee Though things are different now Why can’t we make amends Though things are different now Why can’t we still be friend Once there was a closeness shared Each others burdens, together we beared Your stubborn self will gets in the way And you never listen to anything I say Though things are different now Why can’t we still be friends Though things are different now Why can’t we make amends And now I’ve found someone new To replace my thoughts about you Yeah Let's, let’s go back into the song, keep doing that. Start to build up again then let’s go back into the whole song. Yeah, do psychedelic stuff [Spoken] There once was a time When I could call you a friend of mine Your stubborn self will gets in the way Baby you don’t listen to a word I’m trying to say-eh yeah-eh Though things are different now We should be friends Though things are different now Why can’t we make amend Though things are different now yeah We should still, we should still be friends We should still be friends Still be friends Yeah

OK [Spoken] Oh when the whole world spoke one language Back when the whole world served one god Back when men first toiled in the rocky soil And worked the ground upon which they trod Back when Adam walked with God in the garden Back when the serpent first spoke to Eve Back when man first fell and the gates of hell Opened up and we were all deceived Well that's when Jesus knew I'd love you That’s when Jesus knew I’d care That’s when Jesus knew you’d love me too And made sure that you’d be standing there That's when Jesus knew what I needed To ease the emptiness and sorrow too He knew right from the start when he looked into my heart That I’d be lonely ’til I found you Back when the world first moved in upheaval Back when men invented war And they stood in the mud among the bodies and the blood And could not remember what for Back when Cain raised his hand against Abel And his soul was stained with blood Back when men became so evil That the world was finally washed by the flood Yeah yeah That’s when Jesus knew I’d love you That’s when Jesus knew I’d care And that’s when Jesus knew you’d love me too And made sure that you’d be standing there That’s when Jesus knew he’d save me Yeah that’s when Jesus knew he’d die That’s when Jesus knew I’d repent and follow 'Ile others would pass him by [Larry doesn't fully pronounce the word 'while' in this line] Back when Nimrod swayed the remnant And built the walls of Babylon When David held the throne of Israel And wept for Jonathon in Absalom When men felt the sting of sorrow They were cold in those sleepless nights And their women would sense it and draw closer to their bodies And stay beside them 'til the morning light Well that’s when Jesus knew I’d love you Yeah that’s when Jesus knew I’d care Well that’s when Jesus knew you’d love me too And made sure that you’d be standing there That’s when Jesus knew he’d suffer Well that’s when Jesus knew he’d die And that’s when Jesus knew I’d repent and follow While others might pass him by Yeah that’s when Jesus knew [x2] Yeah that’s when Jesus knew my sorrow And he knew my heart would break And he’d be standing there for forgiveness and love While my tears would make my body shake That’s when I was, that’s when I was That’s when I was born a second time Shaking all over My whole life torn wide open Yeah, yeah I saw him standing there A light around his face His eyes wide open Yeah I’m going to the river I’m going under I’m gonna be reborn Yeah yeah I’m going back I’m going back to the garden Promise me, promise me Yeah You’ll be so very You’ll be so very Very very very very very very Very very quiet when you hear him speak Shaking all over That's when Jesus knew He knew right from the start Before he is Before I was I am is It's dark and cloudy here The world is falling down There’s no way to stand on this shaky ground I have to look for some light And walk through this night It's coming And I'm ready And when it's over I'll be glad No tears, no pain Now it's time Now it's time to look He will live Only he will know What we need Who we are He's the one He's the one He's the one He's the one

It's Alright 06:05
Time is a moving window Love is an open door There’s no need to beg on the street And you don’t have to sleep on the floor Do you know what I'm trying to tell you It's alright if you don't understand what I mean It's alright if you think I'm wrong It's alright if you're blind, it's not easily seen But the light shines so bright and love is strong If it feels good why not do it But don't forget to blame someone else Always look out for number one These are slogans on the walls of hell I'm just trying to tell you something It's alright if you don't understand what I mean It's alright if you think I'm wrong It's alright if you're blind, it's not easily seen But the light shines so bright and love is strong Oh yea-eh It's alright if you don't understand what I mean It's alright if you think I'm wrong It's alright if you're blind, it's not easily seen But the light shines so bright and love is strong It's alright if you don't understand what I mean It’s alright, it’s alright, it’s alright, it’s alright Ah ha ah ah ah-ah Yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yea-ah La la la la la la I wanna do one more verse, so go into a verse One two three [Spoken] I'd like to feed you from a golden platter At the table of love and peace Time and space don't really matter Unless your soul has lost it's lease You might hate everything I'm saying It's alright if you don't understand what I mean It's alright if you think I'm wrong It's alright if you're blind, it's not easily seen But the light shines so bright and love is strong Instrumental [Spoken] La la la la la La la la la la la la la It’s alright, it’s alright Ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh It’s alright, it’s alright

Is God Dead 03:40
Okay [Spoken] Is God dead or is he just asleep Sin has spread, the devil steals the sheep Look at what a mess we've made of things Turned our back on truth and placed our stubborn faith in kings Is God dead or is he just asleep It is said that what we’ve sown we’ll reap Trouble’s coming and it won’t be long All because we don’t care what is right and what is wrong Take a look at the world around us It's falling to its knees Can't you see that we've lost direction Oh won't you help me please Is God dead or is he just asleep In my head, what can I do but weep People have to make a choice in life On the verge of peace we always take the road that leads to strife Is God dead or is he just asleep Sin has spread, the devil steals the sheep Trouble’s coming and it won’t be long All because we don’t care what is right and what is wrong Take a look at the people passing by Pushing you out of their way Stop a moment and if you listen You’ll hear the people say Is God dead or is he just asleep [x4]

I had a baby out of wedlock Her old man got me in a headlock I was an unwed father But don't bother feeling sorry for me I took a lot of LSD I smoked a lotta marja-weeny But it did not help me It did not set me free Oh Jesus, why'd you go and do it Why’d you help someone like me You saved me, you forgave me And you know you set me free You took away my problems One by one I guess you knew what you were doing When you sent your son You know the way that I was living Was like taking without giving And I hurt a lot of people And I lost my friends I spent a little time in prison But I know the Lord is risen And I'll never need To be locked up again yeah Oh Jesus, why'd you go and do it Why’d you help someone like me You saved me, you forgave me And you know you set me free You took away my problems One by one I guess you knew what you were doing When you sent your son I never thought about tomorrow 'Til my life was filled with sorrow Walking down a road not knowing What was ahead Well a man can spend his days Living out his evil ways Or he can try to find the road Before he's dead Jesus, why'd you go and do it Why’d you help someone like me You saved me, you forgave me And I know you set me free You know you took away my problems One by one I guess you knew what you were doing When you sent your son You knew what you were doing When you sent your son

Life was filled with guns and war Everyone got trampled on the floor I wish we’d all been ready Children died, the days grew cold A piece of bread could buy a bag of gold I wish we’d all been ready There’s no time to change your mind The son has come and you been left behind Oh a man and wife asleep in bed She’s hears a noise and turns her head, he’s gone I wish we’d all been ready Two men walking up a hill One disappears, one’s left standing still I wish we’d all been ready There’s no time to change your mind The son has come and you’ve been left behind Life was filled with guns and war Everyone got trampled on the floor I wish we’d all been ready Children died, the days grew cold A piece of bread could buy a bag of gold I wish we’d all been ready There’s no time to change your mind A-how could you have been so blind The father spoke, the demons dined The son has come and you’ve been left behind Life is filled with bombs and guns Heaven help the little ones who die I hope they’ll all be ready People, gold, oil, guns, wars, AIDS I hope you’ll all be ready ‘Cos there won’t be time to change your mind And no excuse for being blind The son will come The clouds will open up and the son will come down And those who were ready They will go home And those who aren’t ready They’ll be left behind They’ll be left behind Don’t get left behind Don’t get left behind Wo-oh oh oh Don’t get left, don’t get left, don’t get left be-behind Wa-oh Wo-ah-oh And on that day he who once walked among us will walk again in our midst, but this time as king Every head, every knee, every eye, every mouth, every ear, everyone [Spoken] Don’t get left Don’t get left Wah-ah-ah-ah ah ah oh oh oh oh wo-oh-oh wo-oh-oh wo-ah

Star-start over again. The the one of your notes sounds like it’s out of tune. It might be in tune but playing such a small amount of notes right close to each other makes the heterodynes wave. So it’s too, play a different style. Yeah, play something that’s not a rhythm, just play up and down, that works [Spoken]

about

This is how Larry described this album in the "Guerrilla Action" newsletter back in the late 1990s:

"I took Beam into the studio one day in the middle of our tour. Some people on the internet said they hate this album because there's talking in between the songs. So be warned. This is not a "studio album". It is a studio recording of the songs we were performing on tour. I thought people would find it interesting to hear so many new songs which I was performing in Europe."

Although as Larry points out some fans were not impressed, this live studio rehearsal album is quite highly regarded, featuring both a good band and a number of unusual song choices.

This is a slightly abridged "copy" of the 1998 double CD release, and even with Jesus Freak and Like A Rolling Stone removed runs well over an hour and a half in length.
