Well here’s a song about Corpus Christi. I never sing these, I’m gonna sing some songs tonight I, I don’t sing. And I’m never gonna sing this song again. Well here’s a song about eh America, but mostly you know Los Angeles. You can help me with this song too, you can sing [Spoken] This is America [x3] Just three times. So you’ll be singing like [Spoken] This is Amer And I’ll be singing [Spoken] This is America And you don’t get fooled by that, you just keep singing [Spoken] This is Amer Think you got it? You Texans you. OK [Spoken] Step into the madness of a million city streets Where the dealers sell white powder and children stand and bleed Where the local gangs are vicious and the cops are so impure That schoolboys carry uzis so they'll feel secure Mothers Where fathers rape their daughters and beat up on their sons Until the mother tries to stop him and goes and buys a gun Where the local church is closed except a couple times a week And turns its face from all the homeless in the street This is America, this This is America, land of the free Everyone gets justice Everyone gets justice and liberty If they got the money Ba da ba ba ba ba bah bow Bankers and controllers make deals on foreign shores The CIA ships heroin to finance their secret wars They sell the madmen weapons then send soldiers to their land And in the name of God we battle for all the oil under their sand Is America, this This is America, land of the free Everyone gets justice And liberty Yeah if you got the money Oh if they’ve got the money Bababababa etc Step into the madness as a thousand points of light Illuminate the warheads for the final fight Step into the madness, say your prayers and drink your tea Get ready for a kinder, gentler world war three This is America This is America Land of the free Everyone gets justice And liberty If they got the money If they got the money

I want the people to know That he saved my soul But I still like to listen to the radio They say rock and roll is wrong We'll give you one more chance I say I feel so good I’m gonna get up and dance I know what's right, I know what's wrong I don't confuse it, uh-uh All I'm really trying to say is Why should the devil have all the good music I feel good every day Jesus is the rock and he rolled my blues away They say to cut my hair They're driving me insane I grew it out long to make room for my brain Sometimes people don't understand They say what's a good boy doing in a rock and roll band There's nothing wrong or evil about blues licks Well if you've got a scripture, show me to my face Why should the devil have all the good music There's nothing wrong with what I play, aaaah Jesus is the rock and he rolled my blues away Yes he did, alright [Mimicking a guitar solo:] Oh oh ah wa wow Ah oh wa ah wa ah wa wa-a-a-ah Oh oh wa-ah ah ah Uh uh uh uh ah uh uh ah ha Uh uh uh ah ah Uh uh ah-ah ah-ah ah-ah ah ah ah [coughs] I’m not knocking the hymns Just give me a song that has a beat I’m not knocking the hymns Just give me something that moves my feet I don't like some of those funeral marches I ain't dead yet Jesus told the truth Jesus showed the way There's one more thing I'd like to say They nailed him to the cross And they laid him in the ground But they shoulda known you can't keep a good man down That’s right, I feel good every day I don't wanna lose it Yeah, well all I’m really trying to say Is why should the devil have all the good music There’s nothing wrong I learned to stand, walk, pray Hey yeah Jesus is the rock and he rolled my blues Jesus is the rock and he rolled my blues Jesus is the rock and he rolled my blues away-ay Yeah ah ah ah wo ah wa ah oh wow

This is a song about eh families, kind of baggage that could carry invisibly from one generation to the next. Bible says the sins of the fathers are visited even to the third and fourth generations. And eh sometimes we feel certain things, we don’t know what they are. Sometimes we enter into a relationship with somebody else, like friends or eh in a marriage and you feel the presence of other…. other situations, other voices. And you often don’t understand why some, some situations eh come up, why the person acts a certain way. Until you meet their relatives, sometimes that helps. But sometimes we never know, we just need to love one another and forgive each and be patient. Confess your sins one to another, tender hearted, forgiving each other. [Spoken] Maybe your father didn’t love you like he should Maybe your mother just held on the best she could Everyone has a secret Give it away or keep it You’ve got to try and let it go You carry the weight, the weight of the world It’s breaking you down, on your back like a boulder Before it’s too late, get rid of it girl Get it off of your shoulder You've been abused But you can lose the weight of the world The weight of the world It all comes down to who you crucify You either kiss the future or the past goodbye God can help you fly You carry the weight The weight of the world It’s breaking you down, on your back like a boulder Before it’s too late, get rid of it girl Get it off of your shoulder You've been abused But you can lose the weight of the world The weight of the world The weight of the world mmm-mmm-hmm The weight of the wo-rld oh-oh oh

You know my baby's got the blues And I don't know what to do I don't know what to say Should I go away And pray for her sorrow She sits there all alone As silent as a stone And I don't know how to help Should I keep it to myself And wait for tomorrow And if I knew how to reach her where the waters run deep I would give her the words that would help her to sleep At night she lays in bed With secrets in her head With pain too deep for words Nothing can be heard But the sound of her breathing Mercies and angels up above Heaven please help the one I love Guide the direction that she goes Watch every step, each hidden stone Please let her know she's not alone Give her the strength to trust in everything she knows I've stayed up late at night My head bowed in the light And what I think at last Is the problems in her past Are the reason she's leaving And if I knew what was missing, if I knew what was best I would give her the words that would help her to rest You know my baby's got the blues And I don't know what to do If she goes away Should I try and make her stay Till her night becomes day And these deep shadows Blow away 'Cause heaven knows My heart is so confused My baby's got the blues Hmm hmm hmm hmm Hmm hmm Hmm hmm hmm hmm

When you first begin your journey You're not sure of who you are And the lessons that you're learning They don't seem to take you far And you just can't keep from stumbling Though you try so hard to stand And the truth can be so humbling When it's just beyond your hand As though youth were my invention As though love lay undefined To stay free was my intention To stay young and unconfined And so I held my pride above you Oh yes what a fool was I Holding back those words I love you And letting out that word goodbye I was wrong to let you go I was a child and I did not know about the love That we both could have given And now you're gone so far away I hope I'll see you again someday But if I don't I hope I'll see you in heaven Mmmmm mmm-m-mmm I was foolish in my younger days To think they'd never end Life confused me with its changing ways And I could not comprehend All the meaning in those moments Now lost like footprints in the sand And I'm standing here remembering But it's so hard to understand And I was wrong to let you go I was a child and I did not know about the love That we both could have given And now you’re gone so far away I hope I'll see you again someday But if I don't I hope I'll see you in heaven Oh oh ah ah ah I've been sitting in this garden In the middle of my days And my memories fade and harden As the years they slip away And I've been looking in this mirror At the age around my eyes Time is such an earnest labourer Precision is its neighbour Lay my body in the ground But let my spirit touch the sky And I was wrong to let you go I was a child, how could I know about the love That we both could have, should have given And now you're gone so far away I hope I'll see you again someday But if I don't I hope I'll see you in heaven If I don't I hope I'll see you in heaven Well if I don't I hope I'll see you in heaven

My woman left me, felt like she left me for another man You know it came as some surprise, it wasn't in the plan She never told me nothing was wrong, she never give me a clue One morning there was a knock on the door and I found out we were through I saw my future fading and with the papers in my hand I found myself transported into this desert land Heavenly father Thou who all doth see You let the rain fall on the good and the bad So let the rain fall down on me As through this life you ramble, through this world you roam You might live in a lot of places and never find a home As down this road you wander and through open fields you cross You must never stop believing, for all is not lost And don't worry 'bout the unfaithful lover and false friend For the love that you have given them is what matters in the end Heavenly father Help me thine to be You let the rain fall on the quick and the dead So let the rain fall down on me Well life is complicated, it’s very hard to live I've tried to turn my cheek to everything my enemies give I got a lot of compassion for the sinners and the slaves I've got an urgent message for those not in their graves He will cover you with water and baptise your pain If you let his power wash you clean and soothe your burning brain Heavenly father Thou who all doth see You let the rain fall on the good and the bad So let the rain fall down on me I didn't know you were my father I thought you were the hanging judge And when I came into your courtroom I thought you'd hold a grudge I thought I was a lowly servant I didn't know I was your son And I didn't know you had forgiveness For everything I might have done This world is crumbling, your kingdom is at hand Give me the strength to live a little longer, help me to stand There's gonna be a collision, this world is going fast A mortgaged future meets a bankrupt past Change is coming but people are sleeping in their bed Storm clouds are bringing rain and the moon is turning red Heavenly father Thou who all doth see You let the rain fall on the good and the bad So let the rain fall on me Dearest father Help me thine to be You let the rain fall on the quick and the dead So let the rain fall down on me Let it fall [x2] Let it fall on me

Let this good life Be the life I lead Let my faith grow Like a mustard seed Let his love be All the love I need To carry me all the way home This life is hard and the road is long that leads me t'ward the light Sometimes I trip and stumble in the night My mind becomes so weary I just want to lay down But I’ve got to keep on going until I reach the higher ground Let this good life Be the life I lead Let my faith grow Like a mustard seed And let your love be All the love I need To carry me all the way home Some Sometimes I get so weary on this road Life gets so bad I start to laugh My mind becomes so weary I wanna give up But I’ve got to keep on looking For the right path Let this good life Be the life I lead And let my faith grow Like a mustard seed Let your love be All the love I need To carry me all the way home Hoping to learn, every wrong turn is a step t'ward the past Going astray, losing my way, but I found it at last Let this good life Be the life we lead And let our faith grow Like a mustard seed And let his love be All the love we need To carry us all the way home To carry us all the way home

I've had a life of pain and sorrow, but I will still be here tomorrow I will survive, I will survive Though men's hearts shall fail them daily, I know for sure God’s love will save me I will survive, I will survive As the seasons go by in my father's world My eyes grow dim I will trust not in the things I see But bow my heart and lift my hands to him Though my days ahead are numbered, my life is rich, I have not slumbered I will survive, I will survive Some hearts are pierced by love long lost, let my heart be pierc-ed by the cross I will survive, I will survive If you see me walking slowly Like a man who's blind If you speak and I do not look up Then you must forgive me but I've got heaven on my mind Come to me my little boy, you have given me life's greatest joy I will survive, I will survive The road before us winds beyond the glade, some fall dancing in the slow parade I will survive, I will survive When my enemies strike I pray for them With all my might When the shadows grow longer and the cold rolls in I turn up my collar and walk into the light Friends may come and friends may go But enemies stay for the late show I will survive, I will survive Friendships fail and love's elusive Life is hard and time's abusive I will survive, I will survive Temptation beckons or befalls me, fear and indecision stalls me I will survive, I will survive Illusion shines like diamonds glistening, my father's watching, he is listening I will survive, I will survive I will survive

No I, I said I was gonna do a lot of different songs tonight so eh those of you who weren't here last night, you're not going to hear the songs I sang last night. And I'm not gonna hear them either. 'Cos I'm not gonna sing 'em. [Starts finger-picking UFO] But eh, I'll sing a few old songs and, from last night. [Spoken]

UFO 03:11
He's an unidentified flying object You will see him in the air He's an unidentified flying object You will drop your hands and stare You will be afraid to tell your neighbours They might think that it's not true But when they open up the morning papers They will know they've seen him too He will come back like he promised With the price already paid He will gather up his followers And take us all away He's an unidentified flying object He will sweep down from the sky He's an unidentified flying object Some will sleep but will not die He's an unidentified flying object Coming back to take you home He's an unidentified flying object He will roll away your stone And if there's life on other planets Then I'm sure that he must know And he's been there once already And has died to save their soul He's an unidentified flying object You will see him in the air He's an unidentified flying object You will drop your hands and stare He's an unidentified flying object Coming back to take you home He's an unidentified flying object He will roll away your stone Ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh-ahm

Texas And Me 03:28
Yeah, yeah, yep. You know I didn't used to like Texas 'cos I mean. Well I, I moved when I was young, but the reason I didn't like it wasn't 'cause of that, it was 'cause when I came back people offered to beat me up all the time. You know I, I was on tour and eh, with my band in '67 and and eh we had to stay in a hotel and eh, this football team from Texas had come to play against some team in Arizona which was where our, this hotel was. And eh, and they looked at us really mean when we checked in, and then we came out to go swimming and, but they were all down at the pool by that time. And we thought we can't turn round and go back in the room 'cause they're all looking at us you know. So we went down, swimmin' and, and they were trying to pick a fight with us and saying bunch of sissies, homo, you know just, just really trying to antagonise us. And eh it turned out alright that time 'cause um, they said what are you guys, a band? And we said uh-huh. And they said what's the name of your band? We said, People. And they said People, you mean like I Love You? I Love You, that People? Uh-huh. An' they, really, that's our song. And we said how could a football team have some love song be their, their team fight song? But I think what they meant was that song was on the radio, right then, and that they, that was individually their each persons or whatever with his girlfriend. Not, I wouldn't think a bunch of football players get their arms around each other saying I love you, yes I do but the words won't come, and I don't know what to say [SUNG ACAPELLA]. OK, let's get out there and kill 'em. So in '71 I came to, to eh, it was Dallas, to do a concert and some guy's you know truck with a gun rack in the back window stopped and offered to rearrange my future. And I came back here another time, em, and somebody eh at this hotel, asked me a question, I couldn't hear him, he was talking real quiet. So I walked over to this fenced area, he was inside the pool. He had just thrown eh some chairs and tables into the water. And I, I don't know what he's still asking, I couldn't hear him but maybe he's asking me do you have any tables and chairs in your room or, I don't know. But being a nice polite boy and a christian too, I didn't wanna snub anybody, so he had talked to me and I went over and said I'm sorry what? And he said something, I got a little closer to this fence and said I'm sorry, I can't hear you. He lashes out at me with his fist, and eh, fortunately the, for the fence there, which he had to hop over to eh, repeat himself. I ran in my room, he's pounding on my door, come out here and I'll kill you. And I said how about if I don't come out, then you won't have to kill me. [Laughs]. So I, I called up the, the eh hotel and they said well we'll send somebody by in a while. Eh yeah yeah. Never mind, don't send anybody by, just call an ambulance. If you can't come now, call the medics. [Spoken] [Note that the single I Love You was released in January of 1968, so Larry likely got the year of the football team story wrong]

But eh, now that other big cities have the same problems [Spoken]

Well my life is filled with songs But I just could not get along without my friends And I'm happy now but when this good life ends I know a better life begins And love to Randy Stonehill With his guitar full volume on his amp He's so crazy but he knows it I still love him as we both crawl toward the lamp Clapton on guitar Charlie Watts on drums, Tsssss [Imitating cymbol] McCartney on the Hofner bass With blisters on his thumbs Dear Dylan watch your fears all hide And disappear while love inside keeps growing Oh let it keep growing You're older but less colder Than the jokes and folks you spent your childhood snowing Yes you did, yes you did And someone died for all you friends But even better yet he lives again And if these words do not make sense to you I hope his spirit slips on through He loves you He loves you, God loves you And if these songs do not appeal to you I hope his spirit slips on through You know Jesus loves you Hmm-hmmm

I hope you don't mind me singing some new songs. It's really a stress on me to, to try and do it, 'em, but I, I hope it doesn't come across that way. I just thought I wanted to share something special with this particular eh audience. [Spoken]

about

A very intimate concert, performed several months after Larry's first heart attack. Because he feared it might be the last concert he would ever give, he tried to make it a very special and personal performance. From a phan point of view, this album is quite unique in that it contains live performances of several songs from the album Stranded In Babylon.
