Ah ha-ah. Uh, this is, uh, I have to have it turned up louder if I’m going to sing rock and roll
Aow, ow, aw, ow. Who's in charge of the microphones? Uh, no, I can adjust it, I just want it louder [Spoken]
Now when you know a pretty story you don't let it go unsaid
You tell it to your children as you tuck them into bed
And when you know a wonderful secret
You tell it to your friends
Tell them that a life time filled with Jesus is like a street that never ends, alright
Sing that sweet sweet song of salvation
And let your laughter fill the air
Sing that sweet sweet song of salvation
And tell the people everywhere
Sing that sweet sweet song of salvation
To every man and every nation
Sing that sweet sweet song of salvation
And let the people know that Jesus cares
And that's the way it goes. Those of you who have English backgrounds can appreciate the alliteration of sing that sweet sweet song of salvation. And this is a sing-along and those of you with lisps I don't really, uh. So if you'll sing this part [Spoken]
Sing that sweet sweet song of salvation
Then I will sing the next part [Spoken]
Sing that sweet sweet song of salvation
La, la, la, la, la, la, la
Sing that sweet sweet
Now you men can drop out at this part if you want. You women can hold your head high. We'll try it once. Are you ready? [Spoken]
One, two, three
Sing that sweet sweet song of salvation
And let the duh da da
Sing that sweet sweet song of salvation
Ooh-ooh
Sing that sweet sweet song of salvation
Da da dan da ba
Sing that sweet sweet song of salvation
Sing that sweet sweet song of salvation
Yeah, that was good. Alright, are you ready? Are you on your own? Youth workers and leaders? [Spoken]
Alright, one, two, three
(Sing that sweet sweet song of salvation)
Sing it like you mean it
And let your laughter fill the air
Sing that sweet sweet (song of salvation)
And tell the people everywhere
(Sing that sweet sweet song of salvation)
Some, I know some of you have mnemonic devices that you've learned as you, you know, have taught, ah. Mnemonic means things, visual things or physical things that help you understand what's going on. Like sometimes a teacher will draw on the blackboard as he lectures to his class so that the pupils will visualize what’s going on or sometimes a teacher will take a ruler and hit one of the students. So if I get you physically involved I know your minds are, well, physically... Why don't we clap? I'll give you a pattern. This is rock and roll. Rock and roll as you know, if you're an adult, means repetitious. So that, that's why the words are the same all throughout the song. Now if I give you a pattern it will be, uh, it will have a beat you know. It’ll be, what is that word that man who thinks rock and roll's of the devil used, uh, syncopation. Syncopation. I don't use words like that. Syncopation. Well this is rock and roll so we'll syncopate it so you'll all know which side of the pearly gates it's on [Spoken]
We'll do it like this [Spoken]
Sing that sweet sweet song of salvation [clap-clap] and let your laughter laugh
They missed it. It's only twice [Spoken]
Sing that sweet sweet song of salvation [clap-clap]
That was good. Now the second section of tables. You can do the same thing as the first section. Those of you who are uptight about clapping for a religious, you know, song or experience, ah, you can think of it as praying, but ju' rapidly. And the waitresses and the cooks can join in. I know you haven't, you know, paid the price of the convention here, and you don't have meal tickets but you’re welcome, to join in [Spoken]
Sing that sweet (sweet song of salvation) come on, come on
Let your laughter fill the air
Sing that sweet (sweet song of salvation) [clap-clap]
Tell the people everywhere
Sing that sweet (sweet song of salvation) [clap-clap]
To every man and every nation
Sing that sweet sweet song of salvation
And let the people know that Jesus cares
Ah
If only your youth groups could see you right now [Spoken]
Now look around you as you sing it
There are people everywhere
And to those who stop to listen
This sweet song becomes a prayer
'Cause when you know a wonderful secret
You tell it to your friends
Go on and tell them that a lifetime filled with you know who
Is like a street that never ends
Alright, it's your turn
Sing that (sweet sweet song of salvation)
Sing it like you mean it
And let your laughter fill the air
Sing that sweet (sweet) sweet (song of salvation) song of salvation
Tell the people everywhere
Sing that sweet sweet song of sal(vation) whoo
Every man in every nation
Sing that sweet sweet song of salvation
And let the people know that Jesus cares
You've got to let the people know that Jesus cares
He really does, he died for all of them to set them free from sin
You let the people know that Jesus cares
Sit around tables, sit in chairs but you've got to let the people know that Jesus cares
Go away from here, get on a plane, go back home and do your thing
Be a leader
But don't set up followers
Don't call yourself a leader
Jesus is the leader
You're a follower too
You may be in front of some other people in line
But you’re not the leader, you're a follower
There are no leaders, rock and roll
There are no leaders but the Lord
Don't set yourself up as an example
Kids will look to you and say, oh, if I could only be as good as him
If they only knew
Woo-oo-oo -oo-oo-oo-oo-oo-ooh
Sing that sweet sweet song of salvation [clap-clap]
And let your laughter fill the air
Sing that sweet sweet song of salvation, wa-a-a-ah
And let the people, let 'em know everywhere
Sing that sweet sweet song of salvation
To president Nixon and the United Nations
Sing that sweet sweet song of salvation
Let the peop'
Sing that sweet sweet song of (salvation) [clap-clap]
Is that because I mentioned the president, and eh [Spoken]
Alright, the last time [Spoken]
Sing that sweet sweet song of salvation [clap-clap]
You can make up your own words this time
Sing that sweet sweet song of salvation [clap-clap]
They don't necessarily have to rhyme
Sing that sweet sweet song of salvation [clap-clap]
Just make sure it's all in time
Sing that sweet sweet song of salvation [clap-clap]
Sing that sweet sweet song of salvation [clap-clap]
Sing that sweet sweet song of salvation [clap-clap]
Sing that sweet sweet song of salvation [clap-clap]
Let the people know that Jesus cares
Whoo-ah ooh-ah

This album is all about the human condition and our very human, fallible relationship with the world around us, as well as our ever so tense imperfect relationship with a God who the world has turned into a politicized parody of himself.
"We are madmen and we are children with a lesson to be learned/we are sitting in the ashes of the bridges we have burned/we are hoping and we are praying, we are holding to the claim that he's coming back to meet us between the glory and the flame" sums it up falling_stars

I got Phil's TIME double CD set years ago and two of the songs from this original release are on it, so when I saw his offer to download it, I jumped on the opportunity to hear the rest of the album! andykercher
